Say “moo” and stick coins on a piglet!

On Thursday 25 October, children from Bedfordshire’s Wrestlingworth Lower School attended their own Harvest Festival service in their village church. Rev. Lindsay Dew led the service, which included the children reading out chosen facts about the Kasiisi Porridge Project, and their own favourite breakfast.  Keen to to raise funds for the Porridge Project Farm, they each decorated […]

  • 39 kms from Santiago

Posted on October 28, 2012 by admin in Pat's Walk 2012.

Another wonderful day´s walking. 27kms of great weather, great countryside, quiet. Not a cloud all day and I was in the hills so the sunrise was dramatic. The picture shows a wood I was walking through when the sunlight began to move down, lighting from the top down. We have been incredibly lucky with the […]

  • 3 days to go

Posted on October 28, 2012 by admin in Pat's Walk 2012.

Two great days walking in Galicia, described in the Book as “rural Galicia at its best, wet and green with the sweet smell and squelch of liquid cow dung underfoot”. I need to find a washing machine the day before I meet Liz, borrow a towel to wear and throw everything, everything into it. I […]

Again, walking through the most beautiful countryside today. Perfect weather. All on my own. Complete quiet as the dawn comes up. I suddenly realise that I am over all the problems of the last few days 7 weeks and I feel full of life. So, person whom I have allowed to win all those golf […]

  • …deep into Galicia…

Posted on October 25, 2012 by admin in Pat's Walk 2012.

Back on the road. 2 days of walking and my feet are OK, my leg is OK, my tummy OKish so couldn’t be better. I am now deep into Galicia with only 6 days to go. This is the last Wednesday I will be walking! So I am walking through fields and hills covered with […]

Well, that was a fun three days! In a blatant attempt to improve flagging interest in the blog, I decided to stop making it look easy and hit a few problems along the way (essential if the screenplay is to gain real interest in Hollywood). So on Friday, instead of viewing the 15th Century Cathedral […]

  • Leon

Posted on October 19, 2012 by admin in Pat's Walk 2012.

This is Leon Cathedral. It is even more beautiful inside than out. It is a true Gothic building, built in just 50 years in the 13th century. Because it was built in such a short time, it has great unity of style. Until this example in Leon, the one in Burgos and the French ones […]

End of stage 19, will be in Leon tomorrow. Last night was not so good. Got into bed and found it was 6 inches too short. So had to sleep on the floor. I got a blanket and folded it over on top of the dog’s blanket on the stone floor and slept on them. […]

Can upload photos now so here are two – one for yesterday and one today.  The first one shows a house with a big yellow arrow.  The yellow arrow (Flecha amarilla) is the sign of the Camino.  This one is very big so a caption like “Hard to get lost on this walk” would be […]

  • Halfway!

Posted on October 14, 2012 by admin in Pat's Walk 2012.

Halfway there!  17 stages done, 16 to go; 412 kms done, 387.5 to go.  If I can do the first half, I can do the second.  It will be no time until I am walking into Santiago and seeing the missus.  Or maybe it will be like Shirley Valentine and we wont recognise each other!  […]

Attached photo is of the 11th Century Inglesia de San Martin here in Fromista, where a wedding is taking place.  I was not asked to stay, despite my shorts. Bride arrived in very old Rolls Royce with her mother. All the congregation were outside to welcome her including what I took to be the groom […]

  • …high up in the Meseta…

Posted on October 12, 2012 by admin in Pat's Walk 2012.

No internet connection yesterday, high up in the Meseta but for some reason the town of Hornillos is in a dip and does not receive the signal.  Or maybe the signal is having a siesta – who knows.  So, two days of news: My feet are recovering from the blisters, slowly.  So I am walking […]

Well, I am afraid I have overdone it.  35 km yesterday and my feet have a number of blisters.  I had sent my pack on before me, the feet feeling a bit dubious but that did not help.  I had to go to the clinic yesterday and they bandaged up the feet but said no […]
